Got the empty one so I could add my own HDD. I bought the Optibay for a 2007 MBP that was just out of warrantee. Just reviving this old thread for a short review.
I did the install of the MCE Optibay myself and I am NOT a technical guy! Follow the instructions and the online videos (thanks YouTube!!!) and you're set! Now I need to upgrade my Mac Mini but I'm sorta weary about opening that puppy up.(it's alot more intensive to open up the Mini than the laptop). Now I can have em on my new internal drive and use the PCI Express PERMANENTLY for my UAD Solo!!!!!īTW, I'll have load Song projects on the 2nd drive temporarily and use it as a recording drive on the go.
I'm using one as my system drive (of course) and the 2nd has my Vienna Instrument Samples, a bunch of Pro Tool, Reason & Logic samples & will soon have Kontakt on it! Since CPU intensive Instruments, like the Vienna Instruments, need to be on a separate drive (NOT on the system drive), this is a PERFECT solution for me.I used to have my "instrument/Vienna drive" on a drive hooked up to my MBP's PCI slot via Express/eSata so it could be fast enough to load the Vienna stuff. I just upgraded my MacBook Pro (early 2008, OSX 10.5) It now has TWO 7,200rpm 320GB Hard Drives. MCE OptiBay Hard Drive for MacBook Pro, MacBook, PowerBook G4, and Mac mini
